SediBat II - Optimisation of sediment microbial fuel cell as energy source for maritime sensor systems
The aim of this project is the development and establishment of an energy system based on microbial fuel cell technology for energy supply of underwater applications. We would like to optimise an existing model system, developed during a previous research project (SediBat I), so that traditional energy sources can be relieved or replaced. Currently, energy produced by sediment microbial fuel cell is quite low. In addition, the working cell potential is also too low for powering electrical devices such as sensors for long-term temperature measurements. Focus of our project is in additon to design optimisation the development of an energy management system (EMS) for boost and control cell potential and for the accumulation the produced energy amount.
