Immune-enhancing feed additives in fish feeds for marine flatfish

Focus of this project is the optimisation of flat fish diets by using feed additives. These substances have to be directly applicable for intense aquaculture and should enhance animal health and reduce feed input. NEISFish is run by the IMARE GmbH in cooperation with our partners University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, Freie Universität of Berlin, Köster Marine Proteins GmbH, J. Müller Weser GmbH & Co. KG and Intertek Food Services GmbH Bremen.

The project is scheduled in 4 phases. The first phase is a screening process for the different feed additives. Phases 2 to 4 are based on the feeding trials with the flat fish and a following laboratory analysis of nutrition physiology and immunology as well as microbiotical and clinical-parasitological diagnostics.
The Screening procedure will be done by all partners by research and information exchange. In the framework of the feeding trials the effect of the different feed additives will be characterised by a combination of in vitro measurements. After choosing the most promising additives, they will be tested in long term feeding trials and with different flatfish species, including the analysis of dissolved and particulate waste.
