The oceans are home to a variety of highly complex, optimized structures for various applications. Neither the complexity of the structures or their optimized lightweight properties are currently used on a larger scale.

The well-grounded knowledge of biomechanical and structural properties of complex marine micro- and nano-structures provides the basis for new products, lightweight constructions and composite materials, which are gaining  importance both in automotive and aeronautical industry.

In addition, the highly specific and complex structures are used as 3D-objects for the development of unique safety features for products and brands with the help of a biotechnology selection and modification process.
